The highest priority of our program is to offer our residents a comprehensive, in-depth and personally rewarding educational experience in pediatrics that will prepare them to confidently choose a future career in pediatrics whether it be private practice or an academic fellowship or a career in public health.

Long ago, St. Christopher’s established a tradition of providing high-quality training for pediatric house staff, fellows, community pediatricians, research and academic faculty. A cornerstone of that training is the open and frequent interaction between our residents and our outstanding faculty, with expertise in all areas of pediatric health and disease and with strong commitments to education.

We strive to maintain an appropriate balance between scientific inquiry and humanistic clinical care in training pediatric residents. In doing so, we give them the tools they need to become competent and compassionate physicians for children and adolescents.

In choosing candidates for our residency program, we look for competitive grades, evaluations and references, as well as a strong clinical performance in the third and fourth years. Our most competitive applicants demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an intellectual curiosity and willingness to assume increasing responsibility for their own education, and finally, a genuine active sense of social awareness and social responsibility.
