| The medical staff and administration of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children recently celebrated the contributions and distinguished career of Angelo M. DiGeorge, M.D., who served the hospital from 1947 to 1989, by dedicating the Angelo M. DiGeorge Teaching Center in his honor.
Over the course of his career, Dr. DiGeorge turned St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children into an academic institution. A pioneer in the then-fledgling field of pediatric endocrinology, he served as teacher and mentor to generations of internationally renowned physicians. He proved to be a consummate clinician and investigator who believed in keen observation, a prepared open mind, relentless tenacity and teamwork. His vision was instrumental in introducing genetic, immunologic and metabolic investigation at St. Christopher’s, and his contributions to pediatric medicine are a precious legacy that the hospital is proud to honor.
In addition to naming the Teaching Center after Dr. DiGeorge, the hospital has honored him by including his image in the mural that was recently installed on the outside of the main building.
